Palma Yanni's RAKU Commission
|
June 11, 2004 - AILA Party at Palma's pad. Palma gave one vase to each of the officers. It was great for me to see them unwrapped by their new owners. Everyone seemed to really like them. |

Yanni "This time I over cooked the raku, because last time the glazes
didn't melt even though the kiln was at cone 06 and the cone had
melted. So this time I kept going until all the glaze had smoothed out,
but Parker's white came out sort of dark. It's still pretty nice
though."
"I retested two glazes that I
tested before (numbers 2 and 3, which are fat white and basic white
crackle.) Last time the fat white didn't melt. It looks like white
paint. This time I put it on two flower pots and they both came out
pretty nice. Both have nice crackle. The fat white actually ran a
little but that's because I went to cone 04. As I pulled the pot off the
shelf, a sticky mass was attached to the pot and the shelf, and I
thought at first was melted latex, and then I realized that it was the
glaze itself. It hardened as I lifted the piece out of the kiln,
and shattered."

3/16/04 - Lisa has a commission from her sister Palma to do 7 unique vases for a presentation this summer. Here she is testing glazes on March 16. They all didn't work exactly the way she wanted, so she is going to make another test batch. |
