All these slip experiments were to avoid using the glazes at the craft center that can be inconsistent, or at least the firings are inconsistent. If I can find some slip alternatives with a simple clear glaze over them, I will lose fewer pieces in the long run.
This vase is a good
solution to the glaze/firing issues. It is glazed on the inside and on the
lip with "albany" aka "temoku", and it has slip on the
shoulder, but most of what shows is the clay body. Los
Altos clay is pink when it's wet, but fires to this wonderful toasty brown, with a nice
texture. Albany glaze is very reliable and doesn't tend to run.
